Hilda K. Heyman (nee Unger), of South Amherst, died on her 95th birthday, Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Admirals Pointe Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. She was born December 15, 1918 in Lorain, and had been a South Amherst resident for 40 years moving from Lorain. Hilda graduated from Clearview High School in 1936 and had several occupations including working in a fabric store in Sheffield, as a caregiver at the Lorain County Sanatorium, and as a secretary for her brother's architectural firm. Hilda was a member of the South Amherst Congregational Church and enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader, sewing, dancing, gardening, crafts, cooking, baking, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen R. (Bob Thompson) Heyman of Vermilion; son, John T. Heyman of Vermilion; 5 grandchildren: Lynne (Jim) Mahaffey, Paul (Regan) Hoffman, Mark (Theresa) Hoffman, Katie (Chris) VanDyke, and Elizabeth (Mike) Haws; 10 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Azok of Wasilla, Alaska; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Heyman in 1979; parents, Stephan and Maria (nee Gottschling) Unger; brother, William S. Unger; and sister, Freda Wilding. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013 from 5-8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Pastor Jim Gaston will officiate. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
