Homer Burns Huffstatler, 94, Southaven, MS and formerly of Vermilion, died Friday, January 18, 2019 surrounded by his daughters after a brief illness. He was born December 22, 1924 in New Albany, MS and had been a Southaven, MS resident for the past 32 years moving from Vermilion. Homer was a veteran of the US Army, serving during World War II. Homer worked as an Inspector for Ford Motor Co., Lorain for 30 years, retiring in 1985. He was an active member of the Carriage Hills Baptist Church, Southaven, MS. Homer served God well as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Missionary. He was a founding member of two churches and built churches all over the states while on mission trips. He was a Mason and enjoyed cooking, traveling, and especially enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden and spending time with his family. He is survived by his daughters, Glenda Hatmaker of Vermilion, Sharon (Skip) Stern of Grand Rapids, MI and Teresa (Steve) Young of Vermilion; grandchildren: Tatia Yost, Justin Hatmaker, Christian Hatmaker, Brian Stern, Matthew Young, and Daniel Young; great grandchildren, Kaiden Yost and Theo Watson-Stern; brother, James Huffstatler of Southaven and his sisters, Betty Jo Cobb of Ingomar, MS and Laverne Evans of Southaven, MS. He was preceded in death by his first wife Annie Lorene Huffstatler in 1985; second wife, Sybil Huffstatler; parents, James Arthur and Thella (nee Rakestraw) Huffstatler, brother, Billy Huffstater, sisters, Frances Berryhill, Juanita Clayton, Sybil Caldwell, and Martha Wilder; and his son in law, Greg Hatmaker. The family will receive friends on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019 from 4-8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Pastor John Jacobs will officiate and the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct Military Honors just prior to the service at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
