Howard H. Hogrefe, 96, of Brownhelm, died Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Ohio Veterans Home following a lengthy illness.

He was born January 14, 1930, in Amherst, Ohio, and had been a lifelong resident of Brownhelm.

Howard graduated from Amherst High School in 1947 and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a Sergeant with the 30th Field Artillery Battalion in Erlangen, Germany, during the Korean War.

Howard began his career with American Standard for 34 years before pursuing a career in farming as a full-time farmer. He was a member of the Ohio Farmers Union and Farm Bureau. He enjoyed taking pictures, especially of his grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter, Julie (David) Hildebrandt of Amherst; son, Kirk Hogrefe of Amherst; grandchildren, Leigh Anne Holmer and Kristina (Gabe) Wasniak; great-grandchildren, Easton and Everleigh Holmer; brother, Carl (the late, Linda) Hogrefe; and sister in law, Gwendolyn Hogrefe.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Hogrefe, in 2018; and his parents, Frederick and Frieda (nee Kunkel) Hogrefe; siblings, Ruth (Donald) Weiland, Paul (Rosemary) Hogrefe, Wayne (Olga) Hogrefe, Melvin Hogrefe, Marilyn (Howard) Pressnell and Kenneth Hogrefe.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Brownhelm Cemetery, Vermilion, where military honors will be presented.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Ohio Veterans Home, 3416 Columbus Ave, Sandusky Ohio, 44870.
