Iona Faye Royster, 80, of Vermilion, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born March 10, 1946, in Gilmer County, West Virginia, and had made Vermilion her home for the past 47 years.
Iona worked for Vermilion City Schools as a bus driver and was also employed by Bettcher Industries and Bonnie Bell over the years. She was a hardworking woman who dedicated herself not only to her work, but most importantly to her family.
She enjoyed crafting, loved flowers, and found great joy in caring for those around her. Iona was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose greatest happiness came from spending time with her family.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, Ted Royster; her children, Michael (Angie) Skinner, Lynn (Dave) Caskey, and Robert Skinner; stepdaughter, Debby Decost; sister-in-law, Denise Royster, who was like a daughter to her; adopted daughter, Missy (Raymond) Poe; many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her sister, Brenda McClough.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Burl and Dorothy (nee Parsons) King; stepson, Raymond Royster; granddaughter, Jamie Royster; and her four brothers and seven sisters.
Honoring Iona’s wishes, no public services will be held.
Memorial contributions may be made in Iona’s memory to Mercy New Life Hospice by Compasus, 3500 Kolbe Road, Lorain, OH 44053. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the nurses, caregivers, and especially Denise Royster for their compassion, comfort, and support during Iona’s illness.
“Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.”
