Irene Mary Cherney (nee Hartle), 80, of Lorain, died Monday, July 25, 2011 at her home after a short illness. Irene was born September 13, 1930 in Lorain and had been a lifelong area resident. She was a member of the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Elyria and enjoyed Christian, Blue Grass and Irish Concerts. She went to music festivals, loved to travel worldwide, and especially enjoyed the music of Daniel O'Donnell and Johnny Cash. She is survived by her daughter, Jackie Cherney and her husband, Daniel Buffington; sons, Don (Benilynne) Cherney and Richard Cherney all of Lorain; grandchildren, Angelic, Paul and Autumn; sister, June Cherney, Vermilion; and brothers, Robert Hartle, Vermilion and Earl Hartle, Tucker, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Cherney, 1990; her parents, Frank and Helen (nee Homitz) Hartle Sr and her brother, Frank Hartle, Jr. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 from 7-9 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. Prayers will be said at the funeral home, Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. Father Ronald Brickner will officiate.
