Irene M. Thomas (nee Horvath), 85, of Lorain, died Saturday, August 14, 2010 in New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph after a short illness. She was born September 4, 1924 in Lorain where she had been a life long resident. Irene graduated from Lorain High School and worked in the office at American Ship, Lorain. She had also worked at JC Penny and Lorain City Schools. She was a charter member of St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Lorain. Irene enjoyed reading, gardening, and baking Hungarian foods for her family. Survivors include her son, Kenneth (Ann Marie) Thomas of Lorain; granddaughter, Bridget Thomas of Lorain; brother, John "Fuzzy" Horvath of Lorain; and sister, Elsie McKinnon of Lorain. Preceding her in death were her husband Leonard Thomas in 2000; parents, John and Rose (nee Pongracz) Horvath; son, Keith Thomas in 1967, grandson, Michael Paul Thomas on Aug. 14, 1995 and brother, William "Beef" Horvath. Friends may call Sunday, August 15, 2010 from 1-3 pm at the Dombrowski-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, Ohio. Friends may also call Monday, August 16, 2010 from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 am at the Dombrowski-Riddle Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Hudak, pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Parish will officiate. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
