Ivalee Marie Tansey

Ivalee "Marie" Tansey (nee Law ), 86, of Vermilion, died Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Ames Family Hospice House after a lengthy illness. She was born January 6, 1930 in Elyria , and had been a life long Vermilion resident. Marie served six terms in the Ohio House of Representatives. Her tenure there included appointments to many Ohio House committees, including Energy and Environment, Local Government Subcommittee, Highways and Highway Safety Education, State Government, Youth and Children Subcommittee, Children and Youth, Transportation and Urban Affairs, and Rules. She had also worked for West Side Federal Bank and was a Secretary for Vermilion High School. She was a member of Vermilion United Church of Christ, Congregational. She had been active as a leader in her community in many organizations, including: The Vermilion Chamber of Commerce; Friends of Harbortown; National Republican Women; the Golden Acres Auxiliary; the Farm Bureau; the State and Township Trustees and Clerk Associations; the Vermilion Women's League (past president); the Great Lakes Historical Society; the Americanism Foundation (honorary member); and the National Association of State Legislators, Precinct Committeewoman. She had been honored with numerous awards, including: the Plaque of Recognition for Outstanding Service by the Ohio House of Representatives; Harper's Bazaar " Superwoman" (1980), Who's Who of American Women (1983-1984), Spotlight Salute to Ohio Women (1982), and was a nominee for Ohio Women's Hall of Fame (1981). Marie enjoyed all Lake Erie had to offer, especially waterskiing and perch fishing. She also loved traveling around the world and socializing with her friends. She is survived by her sons, Mark Tansey of Houston, TX, Dennis Tansey of Gepp, AR, and Rick (Janine) Tansey of Avon Lake; grandchildren: Larry Breen, Victoria Tansey, Amy McMillan, and Ryan and Kevin Tansey; 3 great grandchildren; and her sister, Louise Davies of St. Louis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Chuck" Tansey in 1992 and parents, Edwin and Fern (nee McKee) Law. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 10:30 am at the Riddle Funeral Home The Reverend Bob Richardson will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
