James "Jim" E. Smith, 79, of Huron, died Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Stein Hospice after a lengthy illness. He was born October 6, 1939 in Elyria and had been a Huron resident for the past 10 years moving from Vermilion and Lorain. Jim worked as a Lithographer for the Elyria Chronicle Telegram for 33 years retiring in 2000. After his retirement, he worked at Target in Elyria. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion. He enjoyed swimming at the YMCA, reading, watching t.v., and was an avid Huron sports supporter, watching his grandsons. He is survived by his son, David (Sherrie) Smith of Lorain; daughters, Denise (Bill) Kovach of Huron and Diane (Don) Meyer of Amherst; 6 grandchildren: Tim, Chris, Jacob, Olivia, Emily, and Kyle; great grandchildren, Damian and Azay'lah; and his brother, John R. Smith of PA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (nee Suchey) Smith in 2007; his parents, Robert J. and Sybil (nee Kohl) Smith; and his niece, Cindy Hummel. The family will receive friends on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018 from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. The Reverend Jim Holmer will officiate. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The family suggests memorial contributions to Serving Our Seniors, 310 E Boalt St # A, Sandusky, OH 44870.
