James R. Green, 89, of Vermilion, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Stein Hospice after a brief illness. Born on March 28, 1934, in Berlin Heights, OH, he had called Vermilion home for the last 8 years, having previously resided in Birmingham.
Jim embarked on his professional journey with Lorain Telephone, later becoming Century Tel and subsequently Century Link, where he dedicated 32 years of service before retiring in 1997. In addition to his career, he also devoted over a decade to farming.
A committed community member, Jim served on the Florence Fire Department from 1955 to 1972 and held the role of chief for three years. He found solace and joy in attending Florence Church, gardening, tending to his yard, tinkering on projects and electronics and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his daughters, Christine (Dan Bellis) Smith of Vermilion, OH and Sarah "Sally" (Harvey) Mann of Birmingham, OH, granddaughter, Faith Henry and Tabitha (John) Myers, and great-grandson Jacob Myers.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Arlynn "Lynn" J. Green, his parents George and Lily (nee Derby) Green, daughters, Sherry Green and Deborah Henry, son-in-law, John "Bubba" Smith, great granddaughter, Lily Myers, brothers Louis, Elton, Donald, and Joseph Green, as well as sisters Mary Louise Bostater and Ruth Bostater.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held on May 18, 2024 from 1 to 4 pm at Carriage Barn at Mill Hollow Park, 51211 North Ridge Road, Vermilion, OH 44089. Private inurnment will be held at Birmingham Cemetery.
