James R. Hoying, 78, formerly of Vermilion, died Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at ManorCare, North Olmsted, after a lengthy illness. James was born June 28, 1933 in Lakewood. He had been a Vermilion resident most of his life but had also lived in Lakewood, Parma, Akron, and N. Olmsted. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as a First Lieutenant James worked for NASA as a Computer Systems Analyst retiring in 1995. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion, the Knights of Columbus, and AMVETS Post 22, Vermilion. He enjoyed volunteering at Kingston of Vermilion . He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kathleen I. (nee Kilbane) Hoying; daughters, Patricia (Craig) Lipaj of Twinsburg, Margaret (Randall) Furnas of Chagrin Falls, Mary Kay (Michael) McHugh of Medina; son, Michael (Dawne McNeil) Hoying of Medina; 10 grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Mary Gunderman of Columbus, and Angela Schlegel of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents, A. Robert and Catharine F. (nee Driscoll) Hoying. The family will receive friends on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of a prayer service 10:30 a.m at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the prayer service at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion. Father Phil Feltman will officiate. Private interment will be at the Cemetery of the Western Reserve, Rittman, Ohio.
