James E King

September 10, 1930 — January 23, 2017

James E. King, 86, of Vermilion, died Monday, January 23, 2017 at MetroHealth Medical Center after a sudden illness. He was born September 10, 1930 in Hazard, KY and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 61 years moving from South Amherst. James was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War where he was recognized for his heroic actions. "Without thought for his own safety, Private King deliberately exposed himself to enemy fire to save a fallen comrade." James worked as a Tug Driver for Ford Motor Co., Lorain for 30 years, retiring in 1991. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, bow hunting, and yard work. James also loved to build things (including two homes), playing cards, cars, motorcycles, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Anna (nee Spoonamore) King of Vermilion; daughter, Belinda (Joseph) Dougherty of Lorain; grandchildren, Jennifer, Julie, and James; brother, Junior King of West Robbins, TN; and his sisters, Orangie (Willis) Davis and Ruby (David) Freels both of TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. George and Hazel (nee Privett) King; son, Jonathon King in 1985; brothers, Charles, Lee, and Dean King; and sisters, Bonnie York, Edna Trammel, and Joyce King. The family will receive friends on Friday, Jan. 27, 2017 from 10:00 am until the time of Military Honors presented by the Vermilion Veterans Council followed by a funeral service at 12:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Pastor Chris Robinson will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion. Online condolences may be made at www.riddlefuneralhome.com.
