James M. McKinney, 78, of Elyria, died Sunday, December 25, 2022 at Amherst Manor Retirement Community after a lengthy illness.
He was born September 14, 1944 in Youngstown, OH and had been a Elyria resident for over 20 years moving from Lorain.
James was a veteran of the US Army serving during Vietnam.
He worked as a tour bus driver, driving all of the United States. He also drove bus for Cleveland-Lorain Highway Coach, the City of North Olmsted, and RTA.
He was a member of The All Mighty Church, and enjoyed woodworking, and model trains. James had a natural ability to fix anything and loved to spend time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his step daughter, Stephanie (Jeffrey) Nickoloff; grandchildren, Jesse, Zachary, and Chris; siblings, Ester Walker, Calvesta Walker, Joseph Mckinney, JoAnna Mckinney, Darlene McKinney, David McKinney, Deloris Dykes, Christine McKinney, and Magdalene McKinney; son, Chris McKinney; and his daughter, Ursula McKinney.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia McKinney in 2012; parents, L. Douglas and Mamie (nee Hunter) McKinney; son, Michael McKinney; and his sisters, Ruth Dotson, Mary Boone, and Caroline McKinney.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Dec. 29, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Private inurnment will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain where military honors will be conducted.
The family suggests memorial contributions to a veteran organization of the donors choice.
