James "Jim" Lester Sigler, 77, of Vermilion, sunset Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015 at Fairview Hospital. Sunrise Feb. 7, 1938 in Senatobia, Mississippi and had been a Vermilion resident since 1960. He served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958 in Europe, France, and Germany as a Military Policeman. He earned a European Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and a Marksmanship Medal. Jim worked at Ford Motor Co., Lorain from October, 1960 until his retirement in April 1991. Jim's love for hunting and hunting dogs led him to become interested in Beagle Field Trials. Jim joined the Lorain County Beagle Club in 1962 and remained a life member. Jim also belonged at one time to the Ashland County Beagle Club, the Northern Ohio Beagle Club, and the Corner Beagle Club, Alabama. At Lorain County Beagle Club, Jim served as Field Trial Secretary, Treasurer and Field Trial Chairman. Jim started judging dog trials in 1962 and went on to become an American Kennel Club Licensed Trial Judge in 1966, judging many state and national events. Jim and Nancy traveled all over the East, South and Midwest where Jim was a very highly thought of and respected judge. Jim also owned many good dogs and finished 6 to their championships. Jim also served for many years as a delegate to the International Beagle Federation meeting and was a vice president of the Midwestern Beagle Federation. Jim also served for many years as Official Measurer of Hounds for the A.K.C. Jim was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Marks Lodge, Huron, Lorain Co. Scottish Rite Society and Valley of Cleveland. Jim was a former member of First Baptist Church, Vermilion, member of the UAW #429, and a life member of Vermilion AMVETS Post 22. He enjoyed watching Western movies and following Cleveland Sports. Jim is survived by his wife of 35 years,Nancy (nee Kish- Martin); sons, Hoyt Sigler of Phoenix, Arizona and Sean (Amie) Martin of Vermilion; daughter, Melanie (Todd) Clippinger of Wakeman; grandchildren, Emma and Abby Martin and Renee Clippinger; brother, Leonard Sigler and sisters, Grace Wilbanks and Margie Golden all of Mississippi; and sister- in- law and brother- in -law, Richard and Helen Williams of Brentwood, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert Henry and Lily Viola (nee Partain) Sigler. Friends may call Sunday, March 1, 2015 from 12 Noon until 2:00 pm and 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH where there will be a Masonic Service at 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be Monday, March 2, 2015 at 12 Noon at the funeral home where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors. Private inurnment will take place at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst at a later date.
