James "Fred" Fredrick Wells, age 71, of Vermilion, died Thursday, December 11, 2003 in Community Health Partners in Lorain after a sudden illness. He was born on November 30, 1932 in Boston, MA. He has been a Vermilion resident for the past 2 years, moving from Chesapeake, Virginia. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving for 20 years during the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. After retiring from the Navy, he worked as a mechanic for the Naval Ship Yard in Portsmouth, VA. He was a member of the Vermilion VFW Post 7576. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and was an avid fisherman. He is survived by his wife of 4 years, Ruby Nell (nee Green) of Vermilion; 2 daughters, Deborah Fabich of Winthrop, Mass and Barbara Trask of Lynn, Mass; 2 granddaughters and 1 great-grandchild. Preceding him in death were his parents, Arthur S. and Edna R. (nee Irwin) Wells. A memorial service will be held in Chesapeake, VA at a later date.
