James Whitt

James L. Whitt, 76, of Vermilion, died Friday, September 6, 2013 at Specialty Hospital of Lorain after a short illness. James was born December 16, 1936 in Chapmanville, WV and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 46 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army. James was a repairman for Ford Motor Co. retiring in 1998. He attended Firelands Baptist Church. He enjoyed playing bluegrass music on his guitar, gardening, and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Josephine "Josie" (nee Ellis) Whitt; son James (Deborah) Whitt of Vermilion; daughter Kristi (Kevin) Mahan of Vermilion; and granddaughter Alexis Clemons. He was preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Sarah (nee Beckett) Whitt, sisters Verna Conley and Blanche Conley, and brothers Carl and Jack Whitt. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 9th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South St., Vermilion. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. at Firelands Baptist Church 12320 State Rt. 113, Wakeman, OH. The Reverend Dale Smith and Reverend Guy Morton will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors. The family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of the donor's choice.
