Janet Lee Bertoni

Janet Lee Bertoni (nee Owen), 81, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph after a lengthy illness. She was born May 17, 1934 in Steele, MS, and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 55 years moving from Massachusetts. Janet graduated from Michigan State University where she was selected to be a part of the Fulbright Program traveling to Germany. While in Germany she met her future husband, also a Fulbright scholar, Rev. Louis Bertoni. She was co-owner and operator of Trade Winds, a gift store in Vermilion for 12 years. Janet was a member of the Vermilion United Church of Christ, Congregational where she was active in the Abigail Circle, Bell Choir, and was devoted to the Sunset Shores retreat committee. She was also a member of the Vermilion College Club where she served as treasurer. Janet enjoyed tole painting, murder mysteries, Sudoku, and loved music. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Rev. Louis Bertoni of Vermilion; sons, Jonathon Bertoni of Mountain View, CA, David Bertoni of San Francisco, CA, Stephen Bertoni of Vermilion, and Andrew (Jennifer) Bertoni of Oberlin; and grandsons, Nicholas, Marcus, and Brandon Bertoni. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Thomas and Ruby (nee Frakes) Owen; and a brother, William Russell Owen. The family will receive friends on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015 from 2:00 pm until the time of a memorial service at 4:00 pm at the United Church of Christ, Congregational, 990 State Rt., Vermilion, OH 44089. Rev. Bob Richardson will officiate. Private inurnment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion. The family suggests memorial contributions to United Church of Christ, Congregational, P.O.
