Janice L. Walle

Janice L. Walle ,85, of Vermilion, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.

Janice was born April 8th 1937 in Washington PA.  The family moved to Vermilion when she was in elementary school.  Janice graduated from Vermilion High School.  While in Vermilion High School she received a scholarship to attend Cuyahoga County Hospital School of Nursing.  Janice graduated in 1958.

Soon after graduation she married Ray who had joined the US Army.  Janice worked as a nurse for over 40 years in Michigan (where Wende was born), California, Hawaii, Alabama and finally landed in New Jersey.  Janice worked at Skillman Psych Center and State of New Jersey Neuro-Psychiatric Institute until 1973 when she moved back to Vermilion with her daughter Wende.  Janice continued her career at Cleveland Psychiatric Institute, Lorain Community Hospital (Mercy), Ohio Extended Care and Kingston of Vermilion.

She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church, Vermilion and enjoyed ceramics and traveling.  She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Wende (Frank) Meeks of Vermilion; granddaughter, Bailee Paige (Dylan) Meeks Massey; great grandchildren Willo Mae Massey and Oakley Ray Massey; sisters, Theora Carlson of Homeland, CA and Joyce Dickerhoff of Vermilion; and her brothers, Terry (Jana) Jones of Lubbock, TX and Jeff Jones of Vermilion.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Walle in 1975; parents, Thomas and Minnie (nee DeWitt) Jones; brother, Thomas Jones; and her brothers-in-law, Dave Dickerhoff and Carl Carlson.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 4:00 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio.  The Reverend  Bill Rowe will officiate. Interment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery at a later date.
