Janis Pearl Cooper (nee Horning), 87, of Amherst, died Friday, July 8, 2022, at Mill Manor Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. She was born June 3, 1935, in Lakewood, OH and had been an Amherst resident for the past 22 years moving from Andalusia, Alabama and Vermilion. Janis worked for the Vermilion School District as a school bus driver, retiring after 14 years. She was a member of Harbourtown Community Church, where she organized the Greeting Cards Ministry and taught Sunday School. She enjoyed painting, crafts, puzzles, and gardening. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, James Earl Cooper of Amherst; sons, Jim (Joyce) Cooper of Amherst, John Cooper of Bradenton, FL, and Jay Cooper of Vermilion; grandchildren, Jim Jr. (Heidi), Mark (Lynn), and Jeremy; great grandchildren, Javan, Carter, Sadyie, Elijah, Bella, and Lola; sister, Judy Horner of Vermilion, and her brothers, Arthur Horning of Vermilion and Tom Horning of Vermilion. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Ruth (nee Webb) Horning; son, Jeff Cooper; grandson, David Cooper; sister, Georgene (W.C.) Cooper; brothers, Howard "Charlie" (Nancy) Horning and Bill Horning; brother-in-law, Richard Horner; and daughter in law, Shirley Cooper. A celebration of Janis's life will be held Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at 5 pm at Harbourtown Community Church, 873 State Street, Vermilion, OH 44089. and a meal will be provided after the service.
