Jason Lee Ives valiantly fought a long battle with Alpha-1, a genetic liver disease. That battlecame to an end on Saturday, October 24, 2026.
Jason’s life was marked by humor, compassion, and a genuine desire to leave the world a little better than he found it. Though his long battle has ended, the values he lived by, the lives he touched, and the memories he shared will endure. May he be remembered not simply for the challenges he faced, but for the way he lived, the laughter he brought to others, and the difference he strived to make in the world.
Jason had a deep love for the outdoors, and found joy in gardening, camping, and beekeeping. He appreciated the natural world and made conscious choices to protect it, including committing himself to a vegan lifestyle and continually seeking ways to lessen his carbon footprint. His desire to make the world a better place was more than an idea; it was something he strived to put into practice through the way he lived.
Jason was known for his quick wit and unmistakable sense of humor. He also shared his life through his memorable day-in-the-life accounts featuring himself and his beloved dog, Indy. These glimpses into their everyday adventures offered others a chance to share in his humor, his experiences, and the special bond they shared.
Jason was a huge sports fan. From his own days as an award-winning athlete, Jason enjoyed watching the Guardians (a pastime he shared with his Aunt Kathie), Cavs, football and other sports as well.
Jason cared deeply about others, no matter what walk of life and demonstrated that care through his involvement with Sleep in Heavenly Peace, an organization dedicated to ensuring that no child sleeps on the floor. His willingness to give his time and energy to helping others reflected the compassion he carried into his daily life.
Jason is survived by his mother, Amanda Ives; his father, Martin Ives; and his brothers, Joshua, Jacob (Tina), Joseph (Kristi) and their daughters. He also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins who will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Carol Cody; paternal grandmother, Joyce Ives; Uncle Mike Ives, Aunt Marj Abraham, Aunt Joan Ives, and his beloved dog, Indy.
A celebration of life will take place Thursday October 29 th at Sandy Ridge Reservation from 2:00pm-6:00pm. In keeping with Jason’s love and respect for the natural world, he will be laid to rest through a green burial at Fox Field in Stark County on October 30 th at 1:00pm.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alpha-1 Foundation (alpha-1.org) or the Lorain County APL in Jason’s memory.
