Jean Marie Elizabeth Burns (nee Zielkowski), 83, of Vermilion, died Monday, March 1, 2021 at her home after a lengthy illness. She was born August 15, 1937 in Dickson City, PA and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 62 years moving from Detroit. Jean graduated from Lorain Community School of Nursing and St. Joseph School of Practical Nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse for Providence Hospital, Sandusky for 10 years and retired from Community Health Partners, Lorain in 1997 after 10 years. Jean was also the secretary for the Service Director and served as the Clerk of Council for the City of Vermilion. She also served as the secretary on the Board of Commissions with the City of Vermilion. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion and a former member of the Democratic Precinct Committeeman. Jean enjoyed oil painting, reading, gourmet cooking, and gardening. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Burns of Vermilion; sons, James Burns of Vermilion, son, Jeffrey Burns of Vermilion; grandson, Jeffery Jr.; brother, Joseph(Sonja) Zielkowski of Howe, MI; former husband, Robert Burns of MS; and her good friend, Denise Boycik. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Burns in 1997 and her parents, Ignatius and Anna (nee Baginski) Zielkowski. Private services were held.
