Gerald "Jerry" W. Goad, 57, of Vermilion, died Sunday, November 20, 2022 at Fairview Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born December 23, 1964 in Oregon , OH and had been a Vermilion resident for over 20 years.
Jerry was a veteran of the US Army and worked as an Air Traffic Controller at the FAA Cleveland Air Route Traffic Control Center in Oberlin for 30 years, retiring in 2016. After his retirement, Jerry worked as an Air Traffic Control Instructor in Oklahoma and Oberlin and had also worked at Cranberry Creek Marina, Huron.
He was a member of The Chapel-Sandusky Campus and the Athens Missionary Baptist Church, Walbridge, OH. He was also a member of the Hunting Retriever Club and loved to train dogs. Jerry also enjoyed waterfowl hunting, fishing, camping, watching Sprint Car Racing, and cooking. He loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Christine Goad of Vermilion; sons, Erick (Kelly) Goad of Oberlin and Evan (Alexis) Goad of Collinsville, OK; daughter, Leslie (Eric) Mayer of Vermilion; grandchildren, Wyatt, Cora, Finn, Walker, Isabella, Ethan, and Everett; father, Jerry Goad of Beaver Falls, PA; brother, Gregory (Teresa) Goad of Beaver Falls, PA; sister, Diana (David) Custer of South Bend, IN; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol (nee Dabney) Goad; maternal grandparents, Dewey and Juanita Dabney and paternal grandparents, Willie and Alma Goad.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 5:00 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Military Honors will be presented just prior to the funeral service at 5:00 p.m.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.
