Jessie V. Jeffrey, 92 of Lorain, died Saturday, April 8, 2006 at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home in Lorain following a short illness. She was born November 2, 1913 in West Rutland, VT and lived most of her life in Lorain. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain and was active with their Senior Socialables and Paduan Travelers. She was also a member of the National Alliance of Poles. She had worked as a cashier for the Ohio Theater and Lorain Drive-In, as well as for Katz Bakery and the Meyer-Goldberg Grocery Store. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Meszaros of Lorain and Janice Jeffrey of Amherst; son, James S. Jeffrey of Chesterland; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, Chester Kurant of Marblehead and Richard Kurant of Moody, AL. Preceding her in death were her husband, James S. Jeffrey in 1953, parents, Hiplot and Bernice Kurant and brothers, Stephen, Leonard and Charles. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Dombrowski-Humphrey-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, Ohio. Prayers will be said at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at 10:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 East Erie Ave., Lorain. The Reverend Joseph West, O.F.M. Conv., pastor, will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
