Jesus Garcia Jr., 55, of Vermilion, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at his residence.
He was born August 17, 1970, in Sandusky, Ohio. He was raised in Wakeman and had made Vermilion his home for the past 18 years, moving from Lorain.
Jesus was a proud veteran of the United States Army. Following his military service, he pursued a career in health care and became a Registered Nurse. Throughout his career, he cared for patients at several hospitals and healthcare facilities, most recently working at Twilight Gardens in Norwalk.
Jesus was an excellent cook who especially enjoyed preparing authentic Mexican food and sharing his love of cooking with others. He took great pleasure in teaching his children how to prepare traditional Mexican dishes and passing along his knowledge in the kitchen. In his free time, he enjoyed playing video games, going to the movies, socializing with friends, and playing darts. Above all, Jesus treasured the time he spent with his children. He loved bringing family together and especially enjoyed hosting holiday gatherings, with Thanksgiving and Christmas holding a special place in his heart.
He is survived by his daughter, Cody Garcia; son, Nolan Garcia; brother, Larry Strickling of Columbus, Mississippi; and his former wife and mother of their children, Dana McMullen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus Garcia Sr. and Luella (nee Parker) Garcia; and his sister, Alicia Vazquez.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 6:00 p.m. at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Private graveside services will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, where military honors will be presented.
