Joann Doris Shaeffer

Joann D. Shaeffer, aged 83, formerly of Wakeman, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2024, at Mill Manor Nursing Home following a prolonged illness.

Born on February 13, 1940, in Sugar Grove, OH, Joann spent 36 years as a resident of Wakeman before relocating to Mill Manor Nursing Home in 2012.

Joann proudly served in the US Army as a Nurses Aide during the Vietnam War.

Throughout her career, Joann held various positions including as a punch press operator at Scott and Fetzer Co. in Westlake.  She also spent 15 years at the National Association of College Stores in Oberlin, and also worked at Missler's in Oberlin.

Known for her jovial spirit, Joann was always willing to lend a helping hand and had a penchant for enjoying life's simple pleasures. She delighted in watching NASCAR, passionately cheering forJeff Gordon, as well as following WWF and the Grit Channel. Joann had a deep admiration for John Wayne and cherished spending time with her beloved pets.

She is survived by her son, Jack R. O'Leary of Lorain, daughter Jodie (Edward "Edju") Wisniewski of Vermilion, grandchildren David, Dennis, Dwayne, Kelly, and Nathan, 10 great-grandchildren, and her brother, Rudolf Shaeffer of Norwalk.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Freddie and Mary Ellen (nee Lucas) Bayless, sister Barbara Jean Donaldson, and brother Ronnie Bayless.

Private family services will be conducted. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Friendship Animal Protective League of Lorain County, Inc. at 8303 Murray Ridge Road, Elyria, OH 44035.
