Joey Allen Nickeson, 54, of Lorain, died Monday, May 1, 2023 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.
He was born December 7, 1968 in Cleveland, OH and had been a life long Lorain resident.
Joey owned and operated Central Basin Bait and Tackle in Vermilion for the past 18 years. Prior to opening the bait and tackle shop, he had been a meat cutter for Convenient Food Mart, Lorain and Giant Eagle for 22 years.
He was a past member of the Ascension Lutheran Church, North Olmsted and a member of the Vermilion Fish and Game. Joey was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was also a very talented taxidermist.
He is survived by his mother, Caroline Nickeson of Lorain; brother, Charles Jr. (Chris) Nickeson of Lorain; sister, Christine (Jason) Ferguson of WV; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Nickeson,; and his maternal grandparents,, Henry and Lydia Kowalewski.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 7, 2023 from 1:00 pm until the time of the funeral service at 3:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio.
