John William Athey

February 16, 1952 — March 12, 2025

John William "Jack" Athey Jr. , 73 of Marietta, Georgia and formerly of Vermilion, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Wellstar Hospice Care at Kennesaw Mountain after a brief illness. Born on February 16,1952 in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, Jack spent the last 29 years In Marietta, after relocating from Vermilion.

Jack began his career at Ford Motor Co Lorain, Ohio before transitioning into sales, where he worked as a Sales Manager for 35 years. Throughout this time he held positions with TransWestern Publishing Co and Granger, before retiring in 2017.

When first moving to Marietta, Jack attended North Point Church in Alpharetta, Georgia where he led their Church Christian singles group, holding bible studies and various other events. Later, Jack became the Head of the Apex Christian singles group, where he will be remembered for his humor, kindness, and Love for the Lord.  A devoted member of Mount Paran Central Church, Atlanta ,Georgia, Jack was actively involved in " The Faithful Men's Bible Study" group, as well as serving as an Usher for Sunday Services. He also enjoyed attending Men's Bible study at Mount Paran North, Marietta, GA.  Continuing in his leadership roles, Jack was President of his HOA for several years in his Harper Woods Community in Marietta.  Fitness played a big part in Jack's life as he spent countless hours at the gym, taking neighborhood walks, and hiking through State Parks. He loved traveling and cherished spending time with his grandchildren and family.

Jack is survived by his Son, Christian ( Stephanie) Athey of Avon Lake, Ohio, his Sister, Candy Adams of Vermilion Ohio, his Brother Bob ( LuAnn) Athey of Vermilion, Ohio, his Beloved Grandchildren  Austin, Carter and Brody, and many nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John and Olive (Tooky) Athey and his Sister Shelley Adams.

Family and friends will be invited to gather on Thursday, March 27, 2025 from 4 pm until the time of the memorial service at 6 pm at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South St., Vermilion, Ohio with Pastor Clayton Wright officiating.
