John A. Belden, 96, of Norwalk, formerly of Vermilion, died Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Twighlight Gardens Nursing Home after a 4 year illness. Born March 5, 1914 in Elyria he had been a machinist for Nordson Corporation. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Engineers #1802. He enjoyed boating and volunteering at children's homes. He lived for baseball and Belden Field in Vermilion was named after him. He directed and maintained the field until he was 90. Survivors include his niece, Carolyn Gilbert, Norwalk; great niece, Wendy Shafter, Monroeville; great nephews, Jeffery Belden, LA and Thomas Belden, IN; and an adopted son, Larry Marcum, Amherst. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Clara E. (nee Lambour) Belden; a nephew, Michael A. Belden, 1999 and a brother, George Belden, 2004. Friends may call Tuesday, July 13, 2010 from 11 am. until the time of a funeral service at 1 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion Ohio. The Reverend Jim Stewart will officiate. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery Vermilion.
