John D. Cuthbertson, 83, of Vermilion, died Saturday, July 28, 2012 at his home after a sudden illness. John was born November 9, 1928 in Girard, OH and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 43 years moving from Levittown, PA . He was a veteran of the US Army. John worked for USX (US Steel Corporation) as a spark tester and in management for 36 years retiring in 1983. He attended Fellowship Baptist, Church, Lorain and was a life member of the American Legion Post #397, AMVETS Post #22, and the Management Club at USX. He enjoyed woodworking going to casinos and playing BINGO. He also called BINGO for the Vermilion Athletic Boosters. He is survived by his wife of 7 years, Evelyn (nee Beachler) Cuthbertson; son, David Cuthbertson of Reno, OH; daughter, Cathy (Lonnie) Murphy of Vermilion; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; step son, Matthew Kreager of Sheffield Lake; and sisters, Ruth Ann Cuthbertson of St. Petersburg, FL and Janice Moore of West Palm Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rose Marie (nee Killin) Cuthbertson in 1998; parents, Gordon and Mary (nee Roberson) Cuthbertson; sister, Dorothy Coombs; and brothers, Rev. Charles and Roy Cuthbertson. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 from 12 Noon until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion Ohio. The Reverend Jack Ison will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
