John Fandrich

John Fandrich, 87, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at his home after a 1 year illness. John was born September 29, 1923 in Geneva, Ohio, and had been a Vermilion resident since 1935. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army serving in the occupation forces in Japan. John was a member of the Vermilion E & R Church. John worked as a grape farmer, was self employed at John's Bicycle and Lawn Mower Shop in Vermilion, worked at Thew Shovel, Lorain and after retirement worked at Bicycle Bills, Vermilion and was the custodian at the Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church. He was a member of the National Grape Cooperative. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Charlotte (nee Shook) Fandrich; daughters, Cheryl ( Neal) Nuwash, Austin, TX,and Cindy (William ) Brown of Vermilion; son, David (Donna) Fandrich, Vermilion; grandchildren, Michael McCourt, Daniel and Jason Fandrich and Lawrence and Daniel Nuwash; 5 step grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren, Marcus McCourt, Nichole Crase and Lillian Fandrich; 6 step great grandchildren; 3 step great great grandchildren; sister, Irene Powell, Grants Pass, Oregon and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Katherine (nee Warung) and Daniel Fandrich; granddaughter, Julie Ann McCourt; brothers, Charles and Joseph Braun and sisters, Frances Griebel, Barbara Reff and Helene Gates. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 25, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be Friday, August 26, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Vermilion E & R Church, Ohio at Grand Street, Vermilion. The Reverend Nick Cacciatore will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
