John Fischer, 76, of Amherst, passed away Monday, December 15, 2025, at Admiral’s Pointe following a lengthy illness.
He was born June 21, 1949, in Sandusky, Ohio, and had been an Amherst resident for the past 38 years, previously living in Vermilion.
John was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam Era.
He dedicated 39 years of service to CenturyTel, working as a cable splicer until his retirement in 2011.
John was an active member of AMVETS Post 22; the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Club, where he served as both President and PX Officer; and the Lorain County Radio Control Club, also serving as President. He had a deep passion for World War II aircraft and took great pride in building radio-controlled airplanes. John enjoyed spending time tinkering in his hobby room, traveling to Amish Country, and most of all, cherishing time spent with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Charlene (nee Cooper) Fischer; his children, Brian (Sheran) Fischer, Jennifer Fischer, Ginger (Tony) Cantu, and John (Michelle) Wallace; grandchildren, Devan Fischer, Skylar Pugh, Karley, Felicia, Toni, Andrew, Ryan, and Dominic Cantu, and Liam and Brooke Wallace; great-grandchildren, Mariah Elston, Juleigha Cantu, Nora Norris, and Leon McClellan; and his siblings, Bart (Jenny) Fischer, Dean (Joyce) Fischer, Dawn (Craig) Fischer, and Wayne (Sue) Fischer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Joan (nee Nickley) Fischer, and his stepdaughter, Allison Clark.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 22, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 noon at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Pastor Jim Cooper will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
