John L. Fogarty, 92, of Vermilion, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024 at Ames Family Hospice Center.
Born on June 23, 1932, in Cleveland, Ohio, John L. has been a resident of Vermilion for the last 30 years, after moving from Lakewood.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, John L. served during The Korean War.
John L. worked as a skilled tradesman in lithography for 32 years, retiring in 1992. Much of his career was spent at Photo Color and William Feather, where he was known for his craftsmanship.
A devout Catholic, John L. was a member of St. Mary Catholic Parish in Vermilion and previously belonged to St. Clement Catholic Parish in Lakewood, and St. Malachi Church in Cleveland. His faith was the cornerstone of his life. He served as a Eucharistic Minister at Mercy Hospital and was deeply committed to volunteering, including serving Monday night meals at St. Malachi. He cherished his annual retreats to Mount Saviour Monastery in Pine City, New York, alongside his son Jack and lifelong friend Dave Duffy. In his later years John L. often expressed that their companionship and shared beliefs brought strength and comfort to his life.
John L. was a dedicated member of the Olympic Outing Club in Vermilion. There he treasured spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Terry (Mary Ellen) Fogarty, Kathy Bowen, Jack (Jen) Fogarty, Tim (Leslie) Fogarty, Mary (Rocky) Cabot, Karen (Keith) Porchetta, and Louise Fogarty (Zak Boggs); his sister Mary Jo Miceli; his many many grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
John L. was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia A. Fogarty; his parents, Leonard G. and Margaret Fogarty; his daughters, Peggy Hunt and Jean Hedelsky; his brother, Lawrence R Fogarty; and two infant brothers.
Friends and family may gather on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. for a Mass at St. Mary Catholic Parish, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, OH
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Ames Family Hospice Center.
