John Samuel Franklin, 88, of Lorain, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Kingston Residence of Vermilion after a lengthy illness. He was born June 28, 1924 in Batesville, MS, and had been a Lorain resident for the past 53 years recently moving to Vermilion. John was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII. John worked for Ford Motor Co., Lorain on the assembly line and also in the stock department for 37 years retiring in 1985. He had been a member of the Methodist Church in Whitehaven, TN and enjoyed gardening, watching baseball, hunting, and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 64years, Bernice E. (nee Janes) Franklin; daughter, Janes (Bill) Kinloch of Vermilion; and sister, Cornelia McCullar of Como, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Hattie (nee Anderson) Franklin; brothers, Earl and Woodrow Franklin; and sister, Frances Franklin. Private graveside services will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Red Cross 2929 W River Rd N, Elyria, OH 44035.
