John L. Hammer

John L. Hammer, 62, of Vermilion, died Thursday, November 28, 2013 at Cleveland Clinic Foundation after a sudden illness. John was born October 15, 1951 in Elyria and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 18 years. He graduated from Elyria High School and The Ohio State University where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. He was Chief Executive Officer of Exochem Corporation, Lorain. He was Chairman of the Vermilion Port Authority, Past President and Commodore of Vermilion Power Boats and a member of the American Foundry Association. He traveled the world selling his products and managing his plants in Turkey, Chile, Australia and East Palestine, Ohio. He enjoyed boating, traveling in his RV, trap shooting and fly fishing. He was a licensed pilot, a new member of Beaver Creek Hunt Club and a wine connoisseur He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Wendy Hammer (nee Law) of Vermilion; son, Shawn (Krista) Hammer of Smithville, TX, daughters, Rebecca (Tony) Bontadelli, MD of Polson, Montana and Molly (Kevin) Davis of Wadsworth; step-daughter, Jillian (Andy) Dellisanti of Elyria; step son, Drew Peters of Euclid; father, Charles Hammer of North Ridgeville; brother, Robert Hammer of Safety Harbor, FL and sister, Patricia Hammer of Elyria. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, Wyatt, Isaac, Leah, Clara Hammer, Jackson and Riley Bontadelli, Nora Davis and Cadence and Harper Dellisanti; He was preceded in death by his mother, Elfrieda Hammer (nee Fisher) and sister, Marcia Hammer. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 from 5 to 8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH and also from 10 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Riddle Funeral Home.
