John Thomas "Pete" Heyman, 69, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. John was born August 26, 1946 in Lorain, and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 3 years moving from Elyria. He was a veteran of the US Marines and received a Purple Heart Medal for his service during Vietnam. John had worked for the United States Postal Service in Avon and North Ridgeville until his retirement. He was a proud member of the NRA and enjoyed gunsmithing, woodworking, and leather work. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Katie (Chris) VanDyke of Shaker Heights; 4 grandchildren; and sister, Kathleen R. (Bob Thompson ) Heyman of Vermilion. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. and Hilda K. (nee Unger) Heyman The family will receive friends on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016 from 1:00 pm until the time of Military Honors presented by the Vermilion Veterans Council at 2:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH.
