John E Horwedel

John Edward Horwedel, 75, of Vermilion, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Ames Family Hospice Facility, Westlake.

He was born December 13, 1947 in Cleveland and grew up on his family's farm in Westlake.  He had been a Vermilion resident for the past 10 years.

John started his 40 year career in automotive sales for Halleen Ford in 1969 and worked for various dealerships until his retirement.

John was deeply devoted to his faith and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Parish, Vermilion.  John had a deep love for animals, especially his cats, Walter and Penny.  He enjoyed fishing, boating, and socializing at the local pubs. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family.  John will be missed for his witty sense of humor that he loved to share with everyone he met.

John is survived by his daughters, Sheri (Greg) Herchler of Vermilion and Chrysta (Justin Souter) Horwedel of Bay Village; son Bryan Horwedel of Avon; children's mother, Lynda Chrystal of North Olmsted; grandchildren, Avelyn, Alex, Bryan, Julia, Anna, Ava and Cassandra; sister, Joan (Ken) Keyerleber of Westlake; and his brother, Jim (Noreen) Horwedel of Bloomingdale, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ransome and Eileen (nee Price) Horwedel and his brothers, Jeff and David Horwedel.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 20, 2023, from 4-6 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio.  Prayers will be said at the funeral home on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, OH 44089.  Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
