John Dink "JD" Huckeby, 87, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. John was born December 21, 1927 in Glenmary, TN, and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 44 years moving from Lorain. He was a veteran of the US Army. John worked in various capacities including working as an inspector for Ford Motor Company, Lorain for 30 years retiring in 1990. He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church, where he was active in the Sunday Services at Kingston of Vermilion. He was also a member of American Legion Post #397 and served on the Board of Directors for the Friends of Harbour Town, Vermilion for 44 years where he acted as Treasurer. His great interest with the Friends of Harbour Town was working with the youth at the Old Haunted Mill and the State Street Haunted School House. John enjoyed reading, tinkering, fixing things, and loved archery and bow hunting. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Martha Ruth (nee Morgan) Huckeby of Vermilion; son, John Dolan Huckeby of Lorain; daughter, Deena Lynn Lindo of Vermilion; sister, Maxine Walker of Omaha, NE; and brothers, M.C. Huckeby and Ray Huckeby both of Omaha, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mac Charles and Haley Mae (nee Silcox) Huckeby; brother, Bobby Huckeby; and a grandson, Theodore James Lindo. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 24, 2015 from 4-7 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 9 a.m. at Lakeview Baptist Church, 591 Ferndale Ave., Vermilion, OH 44089. The Reverend Cliff Morris will officiate.
