John Howard Lynch

John Howard Lynch, 83, of Vermilion, died Monday, June 5, 2017 at Admiral's Pointe Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. John was born September 10, 1933 in Wheeling , WV and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 25 years moving from Huron. John worked as a nuclear physicist and engineer at NASA. His publications have dealt with a variety of fields including neutron physics, heat transfer, applied mathematics, nuclear reactor analysis, statistical inference, and reactor physics. John's true love was being a trumpet player. He performed in a wide variety of professional settings. His experience includes small-band jazz, commercial, and lead trumpet work. John used his problem solving skills that he developed at NASA to create an improved mouth piece for brass instruments, the "Asymmetric", that's designed to extend most players' high range. He developed six different mouth pieces and wrote his own patent for all six. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Ann Bors of Vermilion; sons, John (Eileen) Lynch of NC, and Mark (Kim) Lynch of Boston, MA; grandsons, Ryan and Jack Lynch; step daughter, Cindy Ann Berger of Goshen, IN; step sons, William Bors of Vermilion and Robert David Bors of Lake Tahoe, NV; and his step grandchildren, Nicholas and Mitchell Berger. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Bertha (nee Krucke) Lynch and his brother, Edward Lynch. Private services were held.
