John A Markworth

John A. Markworth, 78, of Vermilion, died Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Mercy New Life Hospice after a short illness. John was born in 1938 in Cleveland, OH and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 54 years moving from Birmingham. He graduated from Firelands High School class of 1956 and Ashland College receiving his Bachelors of Science in Science and Mathematics. He later earned a Masters in School Administration from Akron. John started his teaching career at his alma mater, Firelands High School, where he taught physics and general math and coached football. He continued his career with Vermilion Schools as a math teacher and also coached High School and Junior High football, baseball, and basketball during most of his tenure. He retired from Vermilion Schools in 1990 after 28 years. John enjoyed working out at the Vermilion Family YMCA, golfing, collecting post cards, and treasure hunting at yard sales, auctions, and flea markets. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Roberta "Bunny" (nee Plank) Markworth; daughters, Laurie (Tom) Kincer and Leslie (Eric Pawlowski) Markworth; grandchildren: Paige (Vincent Eterlet) and Reed von Mehren, Rhea, Maeve, and Treva Pawlowski; sisters, Janet (Robert) Schuster and Paula Pietch; and brothers, Gary (Marcia) and Robert (Jan Long) Markworth. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Wilma (nee Reinker) Markworth and an infant brother, Jeffrey. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 2:00 pm until the time of a memorial service at 5:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. The Chaplain Jim Smucker will officiate.
