John Marsh Jr., 77, of Lorain passed away after a lengthy illness. Born May 5, 1948, in Corinth (Theo), Mississippi. John later moved to Ohio with his family when his father accepted a position at the Lorain Ford Assembly Plant. He was a proud graduate of Amherst Marion L. Steele High School.
John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. After returning from the military, he returned to the area residing in Vermilion, and he built a long and successful career in the insurance industry. Over the years, he worked as an insurance agent for National Life, American General, and retired from Allstate.
A lifelong Cleveland sports fan, John was especially passionate about the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indians. Baseball, however, held a special place in his heart. He shared his love of the game spending countless hours watching games, catching pitches, playing catch, and offering batting tips. These moments were treasured by his daughter, granddaughter, and nephews, who will forever carry those memories with them.
John also enjoyed reading about the Civil War and visiting battlefields, with Shiloh being is favorite.
Above all else, John’s greatest joy was his granddaughter, Kayla. She was truly 'Papa’s Girl’.
John is survived by his loving daughter, Melissa (Michael) Courtock; his cherished granddaughter, Kayla (Benjamin) Huston; his brother, Gregory (Debbie) Marsh; his sister, Wanda McKenzie; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, John T. Marsh Sr., his mother, Mildred Marsh, and his brother, Philip Marsh.
Private graveside services with military honors will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
