John Thomas Nichols 70, of Vermilion, died Thursday, June 2, 2011 at his home after a sudden illness. Born February 24, 1941 in White Post, KY, he had been a Vermilion resident for the past 41 years moving from Kentucky. John worked for Ford Motor Co. on the assembly line and in the shipping department for 30 years retiring in 1999. He had previously worked as a carpenter, road construction crew member, candy maker, miner in the coal mines in KY and WV, and for Penn Virginia Gas Co. He was a member of the Big Branch Church in Pike Co. KY and Local Union #425. He enjoyed fishing, watching the Cleveland Indians, gardening, and wood working including furniture making. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dorothy Nichols; son, John Thomas, Jr. (Leslie) Nichols of North Ridgeville; daughter, Jennifer Ann Nichols of Alco, TN; grandson, Alex Roy Nichols; brother, Estil (Sue) Nichols of Sheffield Lake; and sister, Dorthea (L.D.) Deskins of Hatfield, KY; and a close family friend Janice Sliger of Alco, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Roy and Mary Victoria (nee Harrison) Nichols and brothers, Wallace and Little J. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 5, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion OH. Friends may also call on Monday, June 6, 2011 from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 am at the Riddle Funeral Home. The Old Regular Baptist minister will officiate.
