John J. "Jack" Schon, 81 of Lorain, died peacefully Friday, July 4, 2008 at Community Health Partners Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born May 7, 1927 in Lorain, graduated from Lorain High School with the class of 1945-B. John entered the United States Navy on May 19, 1945 and served until his discharge on August 7, 1946. He served on the Great Lakes and in California and aboard the USS Frament, USS Bunch and USS Blessman. Jack worked as a machinist for the U.S. Steel Company in Lorain for 33 years until his retirement in 1976. He was a member of the Delaware Avenue United Methodist Church in Lorain, and the Whistler's Club. He was an avid golfer, bowler, and softball player. He also enjoyed woodworking and crossword puzzles. He was known for his humor and for being a family man. Jack was a loving husband and father, gifted with the ability to make his wife, children and grandchildren feel as if they were the most important people in his life. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Beverly J. (nee Kline); daughters, Cathy (Jack)Clark of Lorain and Betsy (Ted) Williams of Lorain; son, Bill Schon of Lorain; grandchildren, Molly Clark, Katy Miller, Adam Williams, Jay Schon, Jamie Schon; sister, Renee Knorek of Ormond Beach, FL.; several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, John J. and Raechel (nee Burton) Schon. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 11, 2008 from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am at the United Church of Christ Congregational, 990 State Rt. 60, Vermilion. The Reverend Wendell Brooker, pastor, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Beacon House c/o Wesleyan Senior Living Center, 807 West Avenue, Elyria, Ohio 44035.
