John J. Sexstella

John J. Sexstella, 83 of Lorain, died Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at Kingston of Vermilion following a lengthy illness. He was born May 15, 1922 in Lorain and has been a lifelong resident. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army. He served in the 456th Motor Ambulance Company in the campaigns of Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He worked as a substation operator for the US Steel Company in Lorain for 37 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church and St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, both in Lorain. He was also a member and past president of the United Polish Club and PLAV Post #38 and a member of the AMVETS Post #47 and the PACC. He was a fast pitch umpire for various men's fast pich softball leagues in Lorain, enjoyed the Cleveland Indians, bowling and playing bingo. He is survived by his sons, John A. of Goldsboro, NC, Robert F. of Lorain, Thomas A. of Vermilion and Kenneth J. of Vermilion; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; companion of 26 years, Gisele Contini of Lorain; brother, Walter of Lorain. He was preceded-in-death by his wife, Margaret (nee Yeager) in 1979, parents, Augustine and Mary (nee Jakubowski) Sexstella, and brothers, Frank, Joseph and Theodore. Friends may call Friday, April 28, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Dombrowski-Humphrey-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. Prayers will be said at the funeral home on Saturday, April 29, 2006 at 9:30 am followed by a 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 418 W. 15th Street, Lorain. The Reverend Robert J. Glepko, pastor, will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain with military honors presented by the D.A.V Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20.
