John A. Smith

John A. "Bubba" Smith, 51, of Vermilion , died Friday, September 15, 2006 as a result of an accident at Vermilion High School. He was born March 16, 1955 in Elyria and has been a life long Vermilion resident. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He worked as an electrician for Vermilion Schools for the past 21/2 years. He had also worked for LTV Steel in Lorain, Lear in Huron, USX as an electrician. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion, the Vermilion AMVETS Post #22 and Vermilion VFW Post # 397. He enjoyed boating, golf, and high school athletics. He was a graduate of Vermilion High School and a member of the 1971 undefeated football team. Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Christine Smith (nee Green); mother, Audrey "Jane" Smith (nee Folk) of Vermilion; brothers, Christopher "Kit" Smith of Toledo, Robert Smith, Jr. of Vermilion; sister, Annalee Hector of Vermilion and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kimberly Bermudez in 1994 and his father, Robert Smith in 1978. Friends may call Monday, September 18, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio A Christian Wake service will be at 3:30 p.m. Prayers will be said Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Ohio Street, Vermilion Father Jim Homer, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion. The Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military graveside services. The family suggests contributions be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, Ohio 44089 or the Vermilion Athletic Boosters 1230 Beechview Drive, Vermilion, Ohio 44089.
