John C Tuttle

John C. Tuttle, 81, of Vermilion, died Sunday, December 28, 2014 at his home after a short illness. John was born June 3, 1933 in Cleveland, and had been a lifelong Vermilion resident and businessman. He graduated from Vermilion High School in 1951, the University of Notre Dame in 1955 and had also attended Cleveland Marshall Law School. John started Tuttle Insurance Agency, Vermilion in 1961 working as owner & agent until selling the agency in 1984. Upon purchasing a local Vermilion orchard and vineyard, he then operated a family farm as Tuttle's Cider Mill Farm for 15 years. With his love of sales, sweets and storytelling he then created the original Fritterman and wholesale bakery business Fritter Farms, serving specialty markets & festivals across Ohio for 12 years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion. He had also been a member of the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce and Vermilion Rotary. Johns varied hobbies included bowling, woodworking, fishing, boating and restoring Lyman boats. He also enjoyed home building, remodeling & restoration of their local century home. He was an expert local historian, sports enthusiast and dedicated fan. John will always be remembered as a beloved husband and loving father, grandfather & friend. His advice, tales and humor were a source of inspiration and amusement for anyone lucky enough to quickly become a friend. He is survived by his wife of 59 1/2 years, Janet (nee Barth) Tuttle; sons, John (Jeni) Tuttle of Grapevine, TX and David (Helen) Tuttle of Vermilion; daughters, Becky (Stan) Byrd of Vermilion and Jenny (Jeff) Schmitt of Chippewa Lake; 7 grandchildren: Brian, Matt, Stacey, Jennifer, Grace, Katy, and Ally; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie; and a sister, Anne Rogers of Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul R. and Winifred (nee Flannery) Tuttle. Private family services will be held at a later date.
