Joseph Patrick Gioffredo

Joseph Patrick Gioffredo, 71 of Vermilion, died Thursday, April 3, 2008 in New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph after a lengthy illness. He was born December 9, 1936 in Sandusky, Ohio and has been a Vermilion resident since 1959. He worked as a custodian for the Vermilion High School and retired after 28 years as the head custodian in 1990. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion, American Legion Post # 83, Eagles Aerie Post #444, and Amvets all in Sandusky. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, crafts, vacationing, music and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth "Betty" (nee Marks) Gioffredo; sons, Joseph A. (Amy) Gioffredo of Vermilion, and Thomas D. Gioffredo of Marblehead; daughter, Nancy M. Bracy of Lorain; and 3 grandchildren: Alicia Bracy, Joseph Gioffredo, and Benjamin Gioffredo. Preceding him in death were his parents, Frank and Lillian (nee Palmison) Gioffredo; brothers, Frank and John Gioffredo; and sisters, Mary Dunham and Bertha Hall. Friends may call Saturday, April 5, 2008 from 10:00 am until 1 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home at 1:00 pm on Saturday April 5, 2008 with Rev. Jim Holmer and Sister Rita Costello, co-officiating. Inurnment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion at a later date.
