Joseph Lee Montgomery

Joseph Lee Montgomery passed onto his home in Heaven on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was a loving and devoted father, husband, and a warrior for Jesus Christ. Joe was born on March 16, 1938 in Sardis, WV to Carl A. Sr. and Thelma Jean (nee Collins) Montgomery. In 1959 after a blind date and six month courtship, Joe married the love of his life, Martha Jean Sendling. Together they raised four children. Joe shared a unique relationship with each of his children making sacrifices and teaching unconditional love. The children still wonder if he really did love the heal of the loaf of bread. He brought his family to Ohio in 1968 and worked for Ford Motor Co. until his retirement in 1997. He was known for his quick wit, infectious smile, and his love for Jesus. He was a respected mentor, and served as a deacon at Lakeview Baptist Church for 36 years. He leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Martha (nee Sendling) Montgomery; daughters, Diana Lynn (Gene) Fichtel of Vermilion and Lora Jo (Silas) Buchs of Vermilion; sons, Bradford Lee (Tonya) Montgomery of Vermilion and Joshua Joel (Erin) Montgomery of Marysville; grandchildren, Jacob, Eden, Logan, Andrea, Adam, Malorie, Madison, Mason, Drew, Luke, and Ella; 9 great grandchildren; and his half brothers, Carl Montgomery of Avon and Ronald Montgomery of Vermilion. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters, Betty Kells and Nada Bramer. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 from 4-7 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Friends may also call Thursday, November 29, 2018 from 10:30 am until the time of the funeral services at 11:30 am at Lakeview Baptist Church, 591 Ferndale Ave., Vermilion, OH 44089. The Reverend Cliff Morris will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
