Reverend Joseph Newberry, 85, of Vermilion, went to be with the Lord, Monday, July 28, 2025 at Mercy Regional Medical Center.
He was born May 16, 1940 in Crab Orchard, TN and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 25 years moving from Lorain.
Reverend Joseph retired from Elyria Foundry, where he worked in the storage and pattern department. More importantly, he faithfully served as pastor of the Church of God of Prophecy of Vermilion, where he dedicated himself to helping the congregation grow in their faith and walk with the Lord.
He found great joy in preaching and singing at the church. In his free time, he enjoyed mowing the lawn, collecting vintage cars, therapy with his sister-in-law, Betty, spending time with his beloved family and dog, Blackie, and indulging in his favorite treat-MoonPies.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Irene (nee Smith) Newberry of Vermilion, OH; his daughter, Sheila (Dale) DeWitt; grandsons, Dale R (Teresa) DeWitt, II. and David Landman; great grandchildren, Mackenzie Kidney, Abbie and Emma DeWitt; and his sister-in-law, Betty Moore.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Stephanie Ann DeWitt; parents, Joseph and Tema Ann (nee Chambers) Newberry; and his siblings, Clifford, Cleo, Ola, Avery, Vaudeen, Betty, Mary, Mabel, Hazel, Tina, JL, Clell, and Brother Boy.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 1, 2025, from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm at the Church of God of Prophecy, 1183 Douglas Street, Vermilion, OH 44089.
