Josephine Vance

Josephine  Vance (nee Richardson), 87, from Vermilion, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023 .

Born on June 5, 1936, in Richmond, KY, Josephine had called Vermilion home for 37 years, also living in Florida for 30 years.

Professionally, Josephine dedicated her talents as a bookkeeper at Society Bank.

She found solace and community as a cherished member of Vermilion's First Baptist Church, and she found joy in the sport of golfing.

Josephine is survived by her devoted husband of 69 years, Linwood Vance of Vermilion. Her legacy lives on through her children: Deborah (Bert) Hanko of Boynton Beach, FL, Michael Glenn (Janice) Vance of Utica, NE; Kevin West (Deb) Vance of Staplehurst, NE and Pamela K (Tuffy) Phillips of Vermilion.

Her memory also remains vibrant through her grandchildren: Shane Spencer, Shawn Spencer, Dawn Spencer, Andrew Spencer, Amber Taylor, Christopher Bailey, Sarah Bailey, Sheila Vance, Kevin Vance Jr., Justin Vance, Christopher D. Phillips, and Kristen L Kaple; great grandchildren: Colin Spencer, Cameron Spencer, Carsyn Spencer,Cailey Spencer, Abbie Spencer, Daniel Spencer, Sloane Spencer, Travis Vance, Savannah Bailey, Mackenzie Bailey, Cali Phillips, Chloe Phillips, Gray Kaple, Keller Kaple, Zephlin Vance, Caleb Crawford.  She is remembered fondly by her siblings: Katherine Sowder of Lancaster, KY; Shelby Silvers of Cambria, CA; and Harry Richardson, Jr. of Clewiston, FL.

Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Opal and Anna James (nee Bowlin) Richardson, her daughter Sheila R. Vance, sisters, Alberta Gammon and Barbara Morris, and brothers, Leonard Richardson and Morris Richardson.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 24, 2023 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services to honor Josephine's life will take place on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 10:00 am  at Riddle Funeral Home, followed by interment at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.

The family suggests honoring Josephine's memory through memorial contributions to the Paralyzed Veterans of America at 801 Eighteenth Street NW Washington, DC 20006-3517.
