Joyce Dickerhoff (nee Jones),84, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026, at Mercy Hospital, Lorain, following a brief illness.
She was born August 30, 1941, in Washington, PA, and had been a lifelong Vermilion resident.
Joyce graduated from Vermilion High School with the Class of 1959, where she was an active member of the band. It was during her high school years that she met her high school sweetheart, David Dickerhoff. They went on to share 47 years of marriage. Throughout her life, Joyce enjoyed being a part of the Vermilion community and connecting with the people around her through her many different jobs. She worked as a waitress at Captain Larry’s and The Nest, and also worked at Hamman’s Bakery and Romps Marina. She later worked as a hostess at Martino’s International Café. One of her most notable positions was with American Greetings, where she stocked greeting cards and retired after many years of service.
Joyce was a member of the Vermilion United Church of Christ Congregational and Silver Sneakers. She enjoyed walking along the beach searching for beach glass, baking, crocheting, shopping, and spending time at Ritter Public Library, where she was an avid reader. She especially loved traveling and enjoyed her trips to Hawaii. Joyce was a longtime supporter of the Vermilion Marching Band and especially enjoyed playing cymbals with the Alumni Band.
Joyce cherished the friendships she made through her Soda Grill Group, where she enjoyed gathering with her friends for lunch each day. She looked forward to those visits and the companionship they brought. Above all, she treasured the time she spent with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Dickerhoff Naill of Vermilion; son, Scott (Kristin) Dickerhoff of Amherst; grandchildren, Monroe (John) Austin, Brock, Kennedy and Landri Naill, Brenndan Frankish, Sydney, Layah, Mia, Dallas, and Mila Dickerhoff; great granddaughter, Isla Austin; brothers, Terry Jones of Texas and Jeff Jones of Vermilion; and sister, Theora Carlson of California.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Dickerhoff, in 2007; son, Chris Dickerhoff, in 2023; parents, Thomas M. and Minnie Belle (nee DeWhitt) Jones; brother, Thomas Melvin Jones; sister, Janice Walle; and infant son, Danny.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 4:00 p.m. at the United Church of Christ Congregational, 990 State Street, Vermilion, OH 44089.
