Joyce D. Smith

Joyce D. Smith (nee Coleman), 89, of Vermilion, died Friday, June 3, 2022 at her home after a lengthy illness. She was born November 27, 1932 in Lorain and had been a life long Vermilion resident. Joyce worked in the cafeteria for Vermilion Schools for over 25 years, retiring in 1990. She was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational and the Vermilion Fish and Game. She enjoyed traveling, bus trips, bowling, playing cards, reading, cross stitch, and knitting. She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Gardinier of Vermilion and Marilynn Hammond of Vermilion; son, Rick (Joan Burke) Smith of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Chera, Paul (Lisa), Charlie, and Ryan; great grandchildren, Carly, Shane, Deanna, Emma, Ryliegh, and Baylie and her sister-in-law, Ellen (John) Rowland of Vermilion. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard H Smith in 2002; son-in-law, Frank Gardinier; 8 brothers, and 2 sisters. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. The Reverend Melinda Quellhorst will officiate. Interment will follow at Brownhelm Cemetery, Vermilion.
